The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
