The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 (It is) the piercing star. 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 Coming from between the back and the ribs. 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
