The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
