The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
