By the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning for people -- 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
