The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
