Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
