The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
