Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
