He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
