When We told the angels to prostrate before Adam they all obeyed except Iblis (satan) who refused. 116 and thereupon We said: "O Adam! Verily, this is a foe unto thee and thy wife: so let him not drive the two of you out of this garden and render thee unhappy. 117 It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked, 118 Nor that thou shalt thirst therein nor shall suffer from the sun. 119 Satan, trying to seduce him, said, "Adam, do you want me to show you the Tree of Eternity and the Everlasting Kingdom?" 120 In the result, they both ate of the tree, and so their nakedness appeared to them: they began to sew together, for their covering, leaves from the Garden: thus did Adam disobey his Lord, and allow himself to be seduced. 121 Thereafter, [however,] his Sustainer elected him [for His grace,] and accepted his repentance, and bestowed His guidance upon him, 122 (And) said: "Go down hence together, one the enemy of the other. Then will guidance come to you from Me; and whoever follows My direction will neither be disgraced nor be miserable. 123 And whoever turns away from My reminder, his shall be a straitened life, and We will raise him on the day of resurrection, blind. 124 He will say, “O my Lord, why have You raised me blind, whereas I was sighted?” 125 [God] will reply: "Thus it is: there came unto thee Our messages, but thou wert oblivious of them; and thus shalt thou be today consigned to oblivion!" 126 Thus do We requite him who transgresses and does not believe in the signs of your Lord (during the life of the world); and surely the punishment of the Hereafter is even more terrible and more enduring. 127 Do they not learn a lesson from Our destruction of many generations before them in whose dwelling-places they walk about? Surely in this are signs for men of understanding. 128
