And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
