The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
