The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
