The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
