Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
