Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents). 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
