Whenever We sent a prophet to a town, We took up its people in suffering and adversity, in order that they might learn humility. 94 Then We gave them good in the place of evil until they became many and said: Distress and happiness did indeed befall our fathers. Then We took them by surprise while they did not perceive. 95 And if the people of the townships had believed and kept from evil, surely We should have opened for them blessings from the sky and from the earth. But (unto every messenger) they gave the lie, and so We seized them on account of what they used to earn. 96 Are the people of the region so secure that they lie asleep unaware as Our punishment overtakes them? 97 Or, do they feel secure against the coming of Our punishment upon them in the forenoon while they are at play? 98 Do they feel secure against the design of Allah None can feel secure against the design of Allah except the utter losers. 99
