And indeed Yunus is one of the Noble Messengers. 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
