۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
