The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
