He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out, as during the night of Holy Prophet's ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
