He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
