And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 He journeyed on a way 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he followed (another) course. 89 Until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We (Allah) had provided no shelter against the sun. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 He travelled 92 until he came between two mountains. He found beside them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 They said, "O Dhu'l-Qarnayn! Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land, so may we pay you tribute on condition that you set a barrier between us and them?" 94 He answered: "Whatever my Lord has granted me is good enough. But help me with your labour and I will erect a rampart between you and them. 95 "Give me pieces (blocks) of iron," then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow," till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." 96 So they [Gog and Magog] were not able to scale it, nor were they able to bore through it, 97 and he said, "This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will level it to dust. My Lord's promise is ever true!" 98 ۞ AND ON that Day" We shall [call forth all mankind and] leave them to surge like waves [that dash] against one another; and the trumpet [of judgment] will be blown, and We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 They whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. 101
