The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
