The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
