He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
