The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
