He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
