The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
