The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
