Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
