۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
