The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
