The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
