Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In an elevated garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
