The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 Then a mighty blast quite justly overtook them, and We reduced them to a rubble. So away with the wrong-doing folk! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 To Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they behaved insolently and they were people self-exalting (by disobeying their Lord, and exalting themselves over and above the Messenger of Allah). 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
