The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and the sea that is full 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to avert it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
