The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
