The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
