The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 And by those who float in space, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 even after we have turned into decayed bones?" 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Has the story of Moses come to you 15 When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 I shall guide you to your Lord so that you may perhaps have fear of Him". 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 and hastily turned away, 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". 24 But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
