Thorns (Al-Masad)

5 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Key (Al-Faatehah) before The Rolling (Al-Takweer)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful

Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab (an uncle of the Prophet), and perish he! 1 Neither his wealth nor his gains will avail him. 2 He will be roasted in the fire, 3 And his wife too, who carries wood (thorns of Sadan which she used to put on the way of the Prophet (Peace be upon him), or use to slander him). 4 Will have a strap of fibre rope around her neck. 5

True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
