The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 On a mighty Day. 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord, 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false! 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
