Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
