The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And shade extended 30 And water poured out 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
