He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
