He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
