Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
