Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem. 1 THE BESTOWAL from on high [of this revelation] issues from the Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace: 2 A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Qur'an for a people who know, 3 A bearer of glad tidings and a warner. Yet most of them turn aside, so that they hearken not. 4 They say: 'Our hearts are veiled from that to which you call us, and in our ears there is heaviness. And between us and you is a veil. So work (as you will) and we are working' 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 who do not pay the zakat, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 Lo! as for those who believe and do good works, for them is a reward enduring. 8
