When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
