The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
